नये समाज का सृजन

प्रश्नकर्ता : जब तक हम हर क्षण अपने पर्यावरण से संघर्षरत हैं  क्या तब तक हमारे जीवन में शांति होना संभव है ?
कृष्णमूर्ति : हमारा पर्यावरण क्या है ? हमारा पर्यावरण (environment) है समाज, आर्थिक, धार्मिक, राष्ट्रीय और उस देश की वर्ग-व्यवस्था, जिसमें कि हम पले-बढ़े, हाँ और वहाँ की जलवायु (climate) भी । हममें से अधिकाँश इसमें समायोजित हो पाने के लिए, अपने आप को उस वातावरण से समायोजित हो पाने के लिए संघर्षरत हैं, क्योंकि हमें उससे रोजी-रोटी पाने की उम्मीद होती है, हमें उस खास समाज से लाभ पाने की आशा होती है । लेकिन वह समाज किन चीज़ों से बना हुआ होता है? क्या आपने कभी इस पर सोचा है ? जिस समाज में आप रहते हैं और जिससे अपना सामञ्जस्य बैठाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं, क्या आपने कभी उसे बारीकी से देखा है ? वह समाज विश्वासों और परंपराओं के किसी ऐसे ढाँचे में ढला होता है जिसे धर्म कहा जाता है, साथ ही जो किन्हीं आर्थिक पैमानों पर आधारित होता है, क्या ऐसा नहीं है ? आप उस समाज के हिस्से हैं, और आप अपने-आपको उसमें समायोजित करने के लिए संघर्षरत हैं । लेकिन वह समाज लोलुपता का परिणाम है, द्वेष, भय, लोभ, संपत्ति पर स्वामित्व की लिप्सा का परिणाम है, जिसमें कभी-कभी प्रेम की झलक भी दिखाई देती है । और अगर आप मेधावी, निर्भय, निर्लोभी होना चाहते हैं तो क्या ऐसे समाज से अपना तालमेल स्थापित कर सकेंगे ? क्या आप ऐसा कर पाएँगे ?
बेशक, आपको एक नया समाज बनाना है, जिसका मतलब यह, कि आपको व्यक्तिगत रूप से निर्लोभी होना होगा, लालच से, राष्ट्रवादिता से, देशभक्ति से और धार्मिक विचार की उन सारी संकीर्णताओं से मुक्त होना होगा । केवल तभी कुछ नया, कुछ नितांत नया सृजित कर पाने की संभावना है । लेकिन जब तक वर्तमान समाज में आप अपने-आपको समायोजित करने के लिए अविवेकपूर्वक संघर्षरत हैं, तब तक आप बस द्वेष, ताक़त और प्रतिष्ठा के उसी पुराने ढाँचे का, उन्हीं भ्रष्ट करनेवाले विश्वासों का अनुसरण कर रहे होते हैं ।

Questioner: Is it possible to have peace in our lives when at every moment we are struggling against our environment?
Krishnamurti: What is our environment? Our environment is society, the economic, religious, national and class environment of the country in which we grow up; and also the climate. Most of us are struggling to fit in, to adjust ourselves to our environment, because we hope to get a job from that environment, we hope to have the benefits of that particular society. But what is that society made up of? Have you ever thought about it? Have you ever looked closely at the society in which you are living and to which you are trying to adjust yourself? That society is based on a set of beliefs and traditions which is called religion, and on certain economic values, is it not? You are part of that society, and you are struggling to adjust yourself to it. But that society is the outcome of acquisitiveness, it is the outcome of envy, fear, greed, possessive pursuits, with occasional flashes of love. And if you want to be intelligent, fearless, non-acquisitive, can you adjust yourself to such a society? Can you? 
Surely, you have to create a new society, which means that you as an individual have to be free of acquisitiveness of envy, of greed; you have to be free of nationalism, of patriotism, and of all narrowing down of religious thought. Only then is there a possibility of creating something new, a totally new society. But as long as you thoughtlessly struggle to adjust yourself to the present society, you are merely following the old pattern of envy, of power and prestige, of beliefs which are corruptive (or curruptible?).
