Of Fears, phobias, the collective and the individual mind :
Just as because of the in-built self-defense mechanism and a measure of protection, the body develops resistance to disease, exactly so the mind too against unfavorable external situations and conditions; -develops and breeds (odd, even, common and rare kinds of) fears and apprehensions.
Fear is basically the Artificial Intelligence on the part of the mind.
The fear of anything; -of the future, political situations, war, stock-market ups and downs, social stigma, acquired religious and traditional values are the various kinds.
Fear though not in quantity or number but quality, could be further categorized as rational, irrational, or fractional as well.
Just as a disease or epidemic affects an individual or an animal, fear as a by-product of the acquired 'knowledge' grips the collective psyche of a class / society that could be further 'identified' as a subject to this fear.
Of course, this process of 'identifying' a group too is again based upon and supported by certain mental concepts or may have been given importance because of our collective Artificial intelligence; -the acquired knowledge / information and our mental conditioning.
For example :
The Fascists 'identified' the Jews, the communists 'identify' the 'capitalists', 'reactionary', 'communal'; -the 'Secular' identify the 'Sectarians'. Even more the Islamist identify the 'kafir' or the atheist, so many ways are there to identify an enemy according to their convenience and motives.
Believing that the Black and the Whites are different races and the Aryans, Arab, Palestine, Jew and Christian, -the Dravidian too are likewise; is again a similar approach that distinguishes man from man.
No doubt, the state of body as a male or a female one is a distinction of its own kind and is to be observed and followed for the sake of simplicity, and poses no problem whatsoever, if there is no gender-injustice.
Just as the word "Love" is the cognate / सज्ञात / सजात of the Sanskrit word 'लोभ'; -
- the word 'Fear', is cognate / सज्ञात / सजात of the Sanskrit word भीः - भीरु .
Interestingly, it is not difficult to note that 'phobia' is another such word synonymous with fear.
'phobia' too is again cognate / सज्ञात / सजात of the Sanskrit word भवभय .
So, 'fear' is the first response / reaction that takes place when we are face to face with a seemingly dangerous situation.
The same fear disappears when we realize that there is no danger or cause to be scared of, or how to deal with the situation.
So, knowledge (Artificial intelligence) brings up the fear and the same knowledge also helps in allaying / overcoming the fear.
The fear becomes obsession / phobia when we fail to understand its significance and just don't know how to handle the situation.
We have social norms, values, do's and don't's -- socially ethical mannerisms for behaving properly in the society. These could be ascribed to 'Religion' or 'Tradition' and also to the beliefs associated with them.As a consequence we are often in conflict within our-self and unable to decide what is the right approach that should be followed.
This conflict and doubt has no end until and unless we see this fact of fear and being fearful.
--
The problem is two-fold.
The Collective Mind and the Collective Psyche are the two fundamental factors of the Collective Consciousness.
Though the Collective Mind is shared by all and the every individual; the Collective Psyche is the Totality of all these and infinitely many more such individual idiosyncrasies.
There are two modes of the behavior of the mind where a word / thought arouses a feeling and thereby a reaction to it, that may be influenced by the past. Conversely; where an emotion / feeling may arouse a thought. Thus the two are entwined.
Love and Fear are two such feelings.
Accompanied by word / thought they are seen through a camouflage, And the fact before remains hidden under the shroud of mystery.
