'धी अस्मि' > बुद्धिः प्रथमो, आदिधर्मो सर्वेषाम् । यथा हि बुद्धिः तथा हि धर्मो । धी अस्मि > theism > अथ गणेशो (धीः) पूज्यो प्रथमो । अ धी अस्मि > atheism is but a negative word. And could never be a religion in the sense of ’धर्म’. If one denies the existence of 'God', it is his ’धर्म’. Veda / sAnkhya never imposes upon man any belief what-so-ever. Either one follows Vaidika / Sanatana VarNAShrama- ’धर्म’ or is ’अवर्ण’. One has (right and inherent duty) to find out for oneself. But 'atheism' is just a wandering in dark. Likewise is agnosticism. English Translation :
'I am intellect' is the very first perception of all. As is one's perception, so is his धर्म / religion.
And the perception may or may not be correct.
भगवान् गणेश / Lord GaNesha the presiding deity of धी / बुद्धि is thus accepted the First-most God.
' ... धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ।'
May He illuminate light in our minds.
'theism' should have been a direct descendant of 'धी अस्मि'.
Like-wise, 'atheism' its antonym.
'अ धी अस्मि' > atheism'. The perception that ignores intellect. The perception that has no way to 'विज्ञत्वम्' / 'Wisdom'.
