Intelligence, Intellect and Creativity.

The spider was spinning the web in the corner.
You could see them if you go on the morning walk in the open fields.
They keep swinging, hanging with a gossamer-thread upon some branch.
Eventually they sometimes land down upon you, on your face, head or on the shirt. You can take them on hand and leave back there on the branch. Winds help them reach far-ends of the tree. They repeatedly descend down the new spot and return to some spot to the old one.
Following a jig-jag pattern they slowly create a beautiful network of threads and then spin secondary threads inside the outermost hectogram.
You can check they usually spin out a cob-web having 5 sides, but that is not a strict rule.
If you catch a cock-roach or a moth in a plastic / glass bottle and release it in the air from a height, it negotiates the way to ground in its own stride. See the birds of different kinds. The fly-catcher or the other tiny birds never fly in a straight line. They have their own defense-mechanism to protect them from the predators.
There is this visible inborn tendency which all creatures have naturally without exception. They instantly respond to the challenges life presents before them. They don’t have a thought-out detailed strategy or planning for survival.
In comparison we humans have this faculty of ‘thought’ and ‘intellect’. This seems to help us in living in the society in a better way.
Really?
Thought has its own rewards in terms of dealing with the things of the technical kind. And this sure gives kind of satisfaction too. We can forget our realities of the fact. Thought gives us limitless ground to play upon. Intellectual mind can ‘study’, ‘practice’ and ‘acquire’ ‘knowledge’ and skill. Can perform formidable feats. So what?
Does intellect really face and understand the essential character of pain, sorrow, anxiety, despair, fear, worry? Could intellect help you in attaining peace of mind? Intellect as skill can carve out great sculptures, paint and invent kinds of entertainment. But could intellect see and understand what entertainment does to our psyche? All entertainment is basically an escape from the fact. One has some essential bodily needs, roti kapada makan, and security. But why after all do we need entertainment? We have been so infatuated with this idea of need for entertainment that we hardly come across this query. I am not saying you should eschew all entertainment. I am just asking why do we have made it into a need? Is it because there is a psychological vacuum inside us that is forgotten for the time being? No doubt entertainment is never an emergency. Only the moment we come across that vacuum of being in our-self, we attempt to hide it behind some-thing that we call entertainment. The same thing turns into habit and when we get used to one form of entertainment we jump onto another form which looks new and more thrilling, enchanting.
We all know intuitively there is simple unalloyed joy we experience when we learn something. Like riding a bicycle, driving a bike or car or even flying an air-plane. What makes learning a joy? Just because we are far more alert, alive and open. Open to risks, dangers as well. In sports, in swimming or competing in some activity. Often painting a picture or molding clay into a piece of art begins with this vacuum that is there inside us. And we unknowingly give it a chance to let it express its own tremendous enormous potential. And basically we are not even conscious about what we are going to ‘create’. There may be a slight inkling, imagination, but when the activity is over only then we may discover the vacuum within our-self has rewarded us with immense bliss.
If we engage in the same activity and try to achieve a great result, mostly we are denied the same. Just because intellect / thought interfere in the smooth functioning of intelligence that this vacuum is.
There is a way of thought and there is a way of intelligence. They nowhere meet but could work together. In synchronization. When we learn, intellect is mostly a disturbance. When you learn swimming or horse-riding, when you learn how to attend a pet, intellect helps to understand the fundamentals. Once you have grasped those things intellect should take the back-seat.
Again, about entertainment.
The entertainment keeps the mind active. The thought keeps agitating. There is no growth. There is no improvement in the kind of the mind that undergoes entertainment. Most often it becomes even dull, more insensitive. Though thought may reach its peak, intelligence dips down to the lowest. It is not co-incidence that as much are there the forms and ways of entertainment, one gets used to some kind of addiction. This addiction is helpful in making the mind more insensitive and keeping one the attention fixed one one object, -of entertainment. This could be the simple foot-ball or cricket match, or the brain-storming of the ideologues of various political hues.
Entertainment does not let you have a peep inside your very being. And an intellectual always loves to ignore that place within oneself. That vacuum is not just a big blank, but is the cradle of intelligence that is creativity, sensitivity and the only thing attainable and worth attaining.
