Rajayoga, Rajavidya,

वाल्मीकि रामायण / Valmiki Ramayana, and गीता / Gita,
--
Some months ago I read this whole Sanskrit text . A beautiful and honest work by Maharshi Valmiki. Then I read 4 chapters of Raghuvansham which narrates the whole history of 'Raghukul'. Again, though Valmiki Ramayana briefly tells the history of the clan of Rama when Rishi Vasishtha describes how from the beginning The Sun (Vivasvana) gave the spiritual wisdom to Manu, Then Manu gave the same to Ikshvaku, and then so on this Rajavidya Rajayoga was again expounded in dwapara to Arjuna by Srikrishna. Though Valmiki Ramayana tells about the story of Raghukul from Aditya to Manu, Manu to Ikshvaku, and then upto Lord Rama only. Thereafter this Rajavidya was lost in the coming times, which was again told by Srikrishna to Arjuna. This is a different approach to Spiritual quest, in that Though Patanjali named His work as Rajayoga, Patanjali follows another regime (discipline). What is taught by Srikrishna to Arjun is far more the same as what Sri Ramana taught to us. The Upanishadik Truth may be the same, but Upanishad and ShankarAcharya only briefly hint at the way Sri Ramana and Srikrishna taught. Sri Raman's approach is far more practical. Yet the Reality is for the deserving only. Sri Nisargadatta and Sri Ramana taught the 'direct approach', while Shankaracharya taught 'aparokshanubhuti' > direct experience. Sri Raman's 'Hridaya-Vidya' is the crest of the Vedanta.in summary, Sri Shankaracharya and Upanishad take the aspirant to 'brahma-loka' ('sarvaM khalvidaM brahma' -knowledge) only and then in some next birth, one becomes aware of the fact 'ahaM brahmAsmi'. In essence though the two dictum are same, attaining the second is the final in practice.
