Is தமிழ் Eternal?

What is Eternal?

--------------©-------------

Our honorable Prime Minister of India said :  தமிழ் is (an) eternal language.

I trust Him, yet I would like to point out that தமிழ் is not the only eternal language.

Like 'द्रविड', The very word 'தமிழ்' is also a Sanskrit word indeed.

I do agree, தமிழ் / 'द्रविड' is also as much ancient, classic and old as is Sanskrit.

But the other South Indian languages like Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada are not of lesser.

The first two தமிழ் words I came across and learnt were :

அது  and இது

These are the two pronouns in தமிழ் that are phonetically as well structurally closely related to their Sanskrit equivalent like :

इदं and अदस्

I don't know what words are there in other South Indian languages that are equivalent to these two words / pronouns.

And I learnt these two and other few தமிழ்  words while trying to study the literature of Sri Ramana Maharshi.

Kavyakanta Sri Ganapati Muni, His esteemed disciple, has categorically applied the word 'द्राविड' for தமிழ்.

While Sri Ganapati Muni has extolled தமிழ், He has also put it on the same pedestal with Sanskrit.

सद्दर्शनम् द्राविडवाङ्निबद्धम् महर्षिणा श्री रमणेन शुद्धम् ।।

प्रबन्धमुत्कृष्टममर्त्यवाण्यामनूद्य वासिष्ठमुनिर्व्यतानीत् ।।४१।।

No doubt I felt elated when I knew how our Honorable P. M. Sri Modiji is trying to draw our attention that all our Indian languages are Great and deserve due respect and love from all of us Indians.

The point is :

Collectively, all these South Indian languages together, are known as Dravid, while தமிழ்  being only one of them.
